QUICK FACTS: 

  • On 1 April 2009, the former Cornwall County Council and its six district councils merged to become the single unitary authority Cornwall Council area.  The Isles of Scilly still remains a separate unitary authority.
  • Cornwall is the second largest county in the South West in terms of area, covering 354,628 hectares, but with around 535,300 residents it also has the lowest population density.
