The South West Environment Network (SWEN) is an independent network of environmental agencies, organisations and groups in the South West of England.
SWEN aims to make an important contribution to the regional agenda by adding real value to the efforts of those involved in protecting and enhancing the environment of the South West, in the context of sustainable development.
At a time when the natural environment, our life support system, is under such severe threat, and the costs of exceeding environmental limits are clear, SWEN offers a new focus on the most important themes for action in the South West.
Here is our exacting but exciting challenge, our rallying call for all walks of life - politicians, businesses, and communities: stop wasting our environment and invest in our future prosperity.
The SWEN 2010 priorities are available as a downloadable Pdf (see below). SWEN is highlighting the Priorities and tracking their delivery.
4 Discussion Boards for the 4 top Priorities - 1. One Planet Living, 2. the Natural Environment, 3. Valued Landscapes and 4. Inspired people - will flag up initiatives, identify shared problems and solutions, look for partners and generally build the environment network in the South West.
We will open a Discussion Board a week for the next 4 weeks starting with One Planet Living - Environmental limits: are any being set in the South West?
You can register on the SWEN website and contribute to the Discussions.
Since SWEN was formed in 1999, the network has made an important contribution to the regional environment agenda. It has encouraged and enabled:
-
The sharing of information and intelligence
-
More and improved partnership working
-
Access to a range of organisations and initiatives on a variety of issues
-
The continuing promotion, protection and enhancement of the South West's environment
Membership of this network is continually growing and it is proving to be an important voice in the busy regional agenda. SWEN has a significant input on an increasing range of issues and initiatives.
